RUSSELLS MURDER SQUAD RELEASES SUSPECT

Police have released a man they were questioning about the murder of mother and daughter Lin & Megan Russell. They had been quizzing the 35-year-old since his arrest on Wednesday morning. On Thursday magistrates gave them an extra 30 hours to question him. Lin & Megan were battered to death near Chillenden Kent five months ago. Josie Russell nine survived & was presented with a Child of Courage award by the Duchess of Kent on Wednesday.

CARLA GROUP LOSES ANIMAL EXPORTS FIGHT

An animal rights group backed by TV's Carla Lane has lost its High Court fight on the transportation of animals. The group claimed the Government had failed to safeguard the health of livestock being shipped to the Continent in bad weather. The Protesters Animal Information Network (PAIN) had sought a ruling that the sailings were unlawful. It claimed animals were exposed to the risk of injury or death in bad weather.

TRACIE ANDREWS BAILED ON MURDER CHARGE

The 27-year-old woman charged with murdering her boyfriend Lee Harvey has been remanded on bail by magistrates. But she is likely to spend the weekend in custody until a prosecution appeal against bail has been decided by a Crown Court ` probably on Monday. Miss Andrews says Mr Harvey died in a road rage attack in Alvechurch Worcs. Reporting restrictions were lifted. The Crown said there was a history of domestic violence between the couple.

RUC ISSUES CHRISTMAS IRA TERROR ALERT

Northern Ireland has been put on full- scale terrorist alert against the IRA. The RUC issued a special warning to the public saying: "Police are warning the public to be particularly vigilant in light of recent terrorist activity." RUC intelligence & the discovery of munitions indicate the IRA is intent on a terror campaign. It is the first time the RUC has gone public with its fears.
