James Robbins reports as Belgians take

to the streets to protest over the handling of a child sex case. Suspicion that the establishment has much to hide now runs very deep. Last Monday's decision by the Supreme Court to remove the investigating judge for showing bias towards the victims and their families sparked a week of strikes & protests across Belgium. There were isolated incidents of stone throwing & that has raised fears about the outcome of today's march.

James Robbins reports as Belgians take

to the streets to protest over the handling of a child sex case. Belgian railways have sold more than 50 000 cut-price tickets to Brussels and the organisers are hoping four or five times that number may take part. The families of girls either murdered or still missing led the demonstration. They urged the crowds to wear something white or carry white flowers & to be dignified & silent.

REDUNDANT FOR

NOTHING? Did you lose your job because the firm said it needed to "downsize"? Thousands of people were made redundant in the late 1980s & early 1990s as boardrooms became convinced that downsizing was the key to success. All companies want to boost their profits and downsizing seemed to be a good way to do it. But as The Money Programme discovers many companies have since found that this is not a permanent solution & can actually harm their performance.

TRIMBLE DISMISSES DUBLIN ROLE IN ULSTER

The Ulster Unionist leader has rejected the suggestion that Dublin should have more say in Northern Ireland's affairs. Speaking on BBC TV David Trimble said it was "illegitimate" to think that "a foreign government should exercise power within our own country". "Why should it have any say in Northern Ireland...over people to whom it is not accountable who have not elected it?" That wasthe very negation of any form of democratic procedure he insisted.

HESELTINE GARDEN INVADED BY PROTESTERS

Several dozen anti-open cast mine protesters have dug a bore hole in the Deputy Prime Minister's garden. The demonstrators invaded Michael Heseltine's garden near Banbury in Oxfordshire in what police at first called an "amicable" protest. They left Mr Heseltine's garden without filling in the hole as promised. Police took no action when digging started saying it was a matter of civil trespass.
