TROOPS AND PALESTINIANS EXCHANGE FIRE

As many as four people have died & up to 300 have been injured in a gun battle in the West Bank between Israeli soldiers & Palestinians. The fighting at Ramallah followed a government decision to open a tunnel adjacent to a mosque in east Jerusalem. The government says the tunnel allows greater access to archaeological sites and has no political significance. Palestinians fear it is an attempt to reinforce Israel's grip on the city.

in the West Bank & Gaza as clashes escalate. The violent confrontation between Palestinians & the Israeli army has been spinning out of control in both the West Bank & the Gaza Strip. The most serious clashes have been in Gaza where Palestinian demonstrators have clashed with Israeli troops positioned close to Jewish settlements. In the West Bank several towns have seen sustained violence.

THREE DEAD AS TROOPS STORM TEMPLE MOUNT

Israeli security forces have stormed Temple Mount in Jerusalem after crowds of Palestinians started stoning police. At least three Palestinians were reported killed in the Israeli assault following morning prayers. In the West Bank a Palestinian & an Israeli paramilitary policeman were shot dead in separate clashes. The incidents followed yesterday's widespread rioting which led to some 55 Palestinian & Israeli deaths.
