Israeli soldiers have shot dead two Palestinians in separate incidents in the West Bank & Gaza Strip Palestinian hospital officials said. The deaths raised to at least 289 the number of people mostly Palestinians killed in nine weeks of bloodshed. Police at Madrid airport seized 800 doses of bovine somatotropin (BST) which arrived from Mexico & 801 boxes of the same substance from Switzerland. The cargo is thought to have originated from South Korea Mexico & the USA. Twelve of those held were arrested previously for allegedly distributing illegal substances for cattle.

Charity managers jailed last December for allowing drugs at a Cambridge hostel for the homeless have been told they will not have to return to prison. The Court of Appeal reserved its decision in appeals by Ruth Wyner & John Brock against their convictions. It said the sentences of five & four years respectively were "far too long". The pair were jailed for allowing heroin at the hostel & not informing police due to a confidentiality policy.
