More than 2.5m members of the Woolwich Building Society are to receive a free share hand-out worth up to £1 200. A basic distribution of 450 shares will be made to about 2.57m people who are expected to qualify the society said. Shares will be priced at between 175p and 200p giving a market value for Woolwich of between £2.96bn & £3.38bn when the company floats in July. Up to 2 000 free shares will be given to savers who have been with the society for more than two years.
