The UK's organ donation rate is one of the lowest in western Europe because grieving relatives are reluctant to allow such procedures a study says. For every million in the population only 12 donate their organs for transplant a UK Transplant study in the British Medical Journal suggests. "The biggest obstacle (to more donations) is the high proportion of relatives who deny consent " it said. Researchers looked at all deaths in 341 intensive care units over two years.

Her two grandchildren & the children's mother 29 were also hurt. Paul Wales of Gorst Street Liverpool is charged with causing death by dangerous driving & other offences. The 47-year-old was remanded in custody to appear before Newcastle Crown Court on 18 May.

The UK government might have to bring in new legislation to prevent the Human Rights Act endangering public safety the lord chancellor has said. Four British tourists have been arrested in Majorca over an alleged rape the Foreign Office has said. A 22-year-old British woman has accused the men - aged between 26 & 31 from Oldham Greater Manchester - of assaulting her at a hotel in Magaluf. She is reported to have told police she met one of the men on Thursday in a bar and went back to the hotel with him. The four are being held in a jail on the island while a magistrate decides whether they should be prosecuted.
