A 31-year-old man has been charged with twice raping a girl who was 11 at the time of the attacks. Russell Tovey appeared before magistrates in Cheltenham on Saturday accused of two counts of rape. Mr Tovey from Cinderford in the Forest of Dean was remanded in custody until a hearing at Gloucester Crown Court later this month. The victim who was just 11 & a half when the alleged offences occurred cannot be named for legal reasons.

The Observer says a leaked letter to Home Secretary John Reid suggests creating new laws which would allow the government to veto court rulings.
